Teaching & mentorship

Bringing others along

Research only matters if it's shared. I teach deep learning to hundreds of students, mentor researchers at CMU, and have taught computer science to communities far from any classroom.

Courses & instruction

In the classroom

11-785Lab Instructor

Introduction to Deep Learning

Carnegie Mellon University · Jan 2025 — Present

One of CMU's flagship graduate courses. I deliver recitations and lectures and mentor 200+ students through their deep learning projects, from architecture choices to debugging training runs.

GuestLectures

Generative Models: VAEs & Diffusion

CMU 11-785 · 2025

Designed and recorded lecture material on variational autoencoders and diffusion models — building intuition from the latent-variable formulation through to modern denoising approaches, now publicly available on YouTube.

Mentorship & outreach

Beyond the lecture hall

CMU LTI mentorship

Mentor multiple students at the Language Technologies Institute and lead weekly MLSP lab meetings, supporting peers across the research lifecycle.

OURCS mentor

Mentored undergraduates through OURCS, guiding teams from an idea to a working demo over an intensive 48-hour research sprint.

Jusoor NGO

Taught mathematics, English, and computer science to refugee students — bringing technical education to learners with limited access to it.
